Clause 8 Operation
8.2.2 Determining the requirements for products and services
Clause Criteria
When determining the requirements for the products and services to be offered to customers, the organization shall ensure that:
a) the requirements for the products and services are defined, including:
1) any applicable statutory and regulatory requirements;
2) those considered necessary by the organization;
b) the organization can meet the claims for the products and services it offers.
Explanation
An organization must define the requirements (Inputs) into its operations for effective product and service provision. This may also include the requirements from interested parties relating to the product.
A couple of key considerations:
Are there any applicable statutory and regulatory requirements?
How does the organization validate that these requirements are effective in meeting the expected outcomes claimed?
Once the customer requirements are defined, the organization is expected to be able to demonstrate that it has considered other relevant obligations, in a formal manner.
Note: Compliance with applicable legislation and industry regulation is important to consider when determining the requirements for products and services.
